Koh Samui In December

Is there any more brilliant time to go visit warm and sunny Thailand than in December? While you can count on gloomy, overcast, and rainy (snow forecast) weather back home at Christmas time, in Thailand, you should plan to buy and bring a new bathing suit! You simply can not go wrong with spending the month December and the Christmas holidays in Koh Samu, Thailand.

Start with the most important part of your big holiday-time trip, the weather. The temperatures are wonderful as not too hot, not too cool, but just right. Rainfall is rumored to be heavy in December, but the second half of the month it tapers off to much less rain. Odds of rain drop by 50% between December 1st and December 31st. Get your swimsuit ready.

This is not to say that it will not rain at all while you are here in the tropics. To be on the safe side when you do run into that heavy raining day, bring along some fun travel games, a good book or two, and a few choice coloring books if you are traveling with kids. Even in the rain, you ought to be able to find a good coconut shake or Singha closeby.

If you are a foodie, then you may be concerned about what you will eat at this all important holidays time of the year. The good news is that you should plan on eating and eating and eating on this trip. There are plenty of celebrating meals to be had in Koh Samui around Christmas. This kicks off even before the big day with the Nikki Beach DJ Christmas Party. You will not want to miss this December 17th free for all event with DJ Juicy M held annually at Nikki Beach. Thailand may not celebrate Christmas as a native, original holiday, yet they have adopted it with enthusiasm. The decorations on the island are simply gorgeous.

Christmas is actually a very nice time to come to visit Koh Samui. Practically every restaurant will be serving some type of Christmas dinner ( not always traditional European ) around the island, and these will be available for every price and budget. Those tables with the best view will go fast, so be sure to book as early as you possibly can.

If you will be staying on or flying in for New Year’s Eve, you can anticipate much the same holiday food treatment as with Christmas. This meal will come with greater quantities of champagne of course. In both cases, you are generally looking at either five or six-course dinners, many beginning with Salmon or Turkey BBQ and ending with various Christmas puddings.

Naturally there will be much more than simply eating all day and walking on the beach to occupy you on your December getaway to Koh Samui. Do not forget the shopping and afternoon adventures.

Speaking of afternoon adventures, every day promises some different weekly themed party or fun event on the island. Monday’s feature Thai desserts night at Melati, Choeng Mon, where you can sample the full array of Thai desserts and sweets.

Tuesday’s offer the famous and gorgeous Junk Chantara group boat cruise tours that leave from Samui at Koh Phangan from 11am to 7pm. These cruises are repeated every Thursday and Saturday afternoon as well.

Wednesday’s give you the Nikki Beach, Lipa Noi “Cinema on the Sand” Beach Movie Night. Each Wednesday there will be a new movie served up alongside dinner and then live music until dark. The party starts at 6pm and goes till late.

Thursday’s deliver the Rocky’s Resort, Rocky’s “Beach BBQ Party” and Fireshow. This beach BBQ is a buffet, so come hungry. There will also be live music featured until dark. The fire show happens when the sun is fully set.

Friday’s offer up “Fab Fridays,” featuring drinks and a DJ at RockPool. This fun party features live music or a DJ, drink and dinner promotions, and mean Gin and Tonics from 5pm till 8pm and beyond. The whole event happens at Kanda in between north Chaweng and Choeng Mon.

Saturdays have the “Soulful Saturdays” DJ Pool Party at Beach Republic in Lamai. The ladies can take a trip back to the past to the time of the Mad Men Season 1 heady days of 1960. A free bottle of bubbles is given out to every group of four ladies with four bikinis. While no rules state that the bikinis have to be worn to the party and shown off in order to win the freebie, we suspect that four girls coming dressed up and carrying their bag containing four bikinis will miss out.

Sunday’s close out the week with a variety of Sunday brunch options. Nikki Beach brings you the “World Famous Amazing Sunday Brunch” from 11am till 4pm and Beach Republic has their Sunday Sessions from 11:30am till 3:30pm on Lamai Beach. Themed types of holiday parties mean that Christmas and New year’s brunches will be extra special. Later on Sunday there is the Sunday Afternoon BBQ at Tango Luxe, starting at 7pm. Look for mashed potatoes and ribs along with other yummy taste sensations. There is also Moo Kata’s Barefoot fire show and BBQ at Belmond Napassai, Maenam.
