Frisbee golf is a fun game where a disc is thrown at a series of targets. These take the form of a pole with a basket base. Aim for the basket, fling your frisbee, and cast your cares away. The goal of the game is to complete the course in the fewest possible throws. The Samui Frisbee Golf course consists of 9 targets set in a shady grove. A hospitable family runs the course, who will gladly teach you how to play the game. Play as many rounds as you like with one admission fee.

This 18-hole course is a world-class gem. A panoramic paradise, it is caressed by coconut trees and verdant valleys. It features a well-stocked pro shop and top-notch restaurant. You’ll feel like royalty as you play this course, considered among the best in Thailand. Challenging fairways charge up and down slopes and around mountain streams. In addition to being a cooking school, Arun@Samui is one of the best restaurants in Mae Nam. Chef Sue is its charming owner, the former manager of an award-winning Thai restaurant in Australia. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon, with a choice of three to five dishes per class. After creating your culinary masterpieces, you can share them with your fellow students. Sue warmly welcomes all guests, making them feel like they’re dining in her home. Food is fabulous and MSG-free. Prices are inexpensive. The restaurant is cozy, clean, and comfortable.


Southeast of Mae Nam is the village of Bophut. It consists of two sections, the beach and Fisherman’s Village. Bophut’s beach is narrow and its water is calm. Colourful boats court the soft sand and cruise the turquoise water. The town is famed for its fine restaurants and fantastic sunsets. A “walking street” is a traffic-free zone, featuring chic shops and quaint cafés. Boutiques sell quality clothing and jewellery.

This retreat offers Pilates, Zumba, Dancercise, yoga, martial arts, and massage in a lovely garden setting. Classes are given in an open-air studio by attentive, friendly teachers. Have you ever wondered what it’s like to scuba dive? Discover diving through this stellar school. A beginner’s course teaches the use of scuba equipment in shallow water. Under the supervision of a professional instructor, you learn basic skills and safety rules. Once comfortable with scuba diving, you can take a day trip to local reefs. Imagine exploring the underwater world of colourful fish and coral! Friendly dive leaders treat customers like friends. Fees are reasonable.

At the northeast tip of Koh Samui is dazzling queen Choeng Mon. She comprises a series of bays and whitewashed sand. Choeng Mon’s skies are azure blue. Her beach is soft, wide, and spacious.

The Goddess of Compassion sits atop this glorious temple. She is strikingly beautiful in brilliant white. Her 18 arms reach out to people and embrace them in distress. She is known as the protector of the ill, poor, women, and children. Flanking the temple are two long halls with colourful murals. A lovely lake encircles the temple, teeming with fish that can be fed for a small donation. The compound also features a red-pillared walkway leading to a laughing Buddha. Many devotees come daily to honor goddess Guanyin and Buddha. Out of respect for this sacred place, one needs to dress conservatively. Be sure to wear clothing that covers your arms and legs.

This dive center offers a variety of scuba diving tours and courses. The Discover Scuba Diving program teaches basic scuba skills. Other courses include Open Water Diver, Master Scuba Diver, Divemaster, and Scuba Review. Both classroom and active instruction are given. Personalized attention is provided by experienced teachers. Divers are grouped according to skill level. Boats are world-class yachts that deliver smooth, swift sailing. Each accommodates 15 divers plus staff. This professional course features concrete tracks on gorgeously landscaped grounds. The course has the unique distinction of being a member of the Mini Golf Federation, making it first-class. It consists of 18 holes flanked by red bricking and colourful flowers. The concrete creates a faster course than typical astro-turf. Tropical trees provide plenty of shade. A café offers beverages, snacks, and sandwiches.



The north coast of Koh Samui is also host to Bang Rak Beach. Located between Bophut and Choeng Mon, it is one of the quieter, less-known beaches. A novel feature of this beach is a lovely sandbar.

This immense golden temple is one of Koh Samui’s most impressive landmarks. The complex sits on a small island, cresting a verdant hill. It is accessed by a red ceremonial stairway. On each side of the stairs is a red-roofed pavilion, featuring golden Buddhas. Numerous bells surround the temple, which can be sounded with coconut sticks. Come evening, the statue is bathed in a golden glow of floodlight, further highlighting its beauty. The top of the 12-meter temple provides sweeping views of the sea. A courtyard at its base features shops and restaurants. Visitors are asked to dress respectfully, covering their arms and legs.

The Seatran ferry provides a relaxing ride with views of the Koh Samui countryside. It travels to Ko Pha Ngan in 30 minutes, then on to Ko Tao in 90 minutes. The boat is clean, comfortable, and spacious. On-board amenities include an air-conditioned cabin, café, and bathroom. Staff is pleasant.

Na Muang is a lovely spot for romantic walks. Two thrilling cascades comprise this beautiful oasis. The first waterfall tumbles down a rocky cliff into a large pool, perfect for swimming. A 30-minute walk brings you to the second waterfall, which is the highest in Koh Samui. Easy hiking paths provide close-up views of the intricate rock formations.
